A Reader’s Guide about the High-pressure Pumps & Their Features

High Pressure Pump
High-Pressure Pumps are a variety of pumps which can fulfill the pumping needs of high rise buildings. Such mammoth level constructions usually demand huge pressure to supply the entire building. The normal capacity of these pumps lies in between the height of 200 meters to a maximum of 1200 meters.

In general, all varieties of pumps work with the principle of Moving water with the action of a plunger or piston in a cylinder. They contain huge-diameter impeller with shallow vanes for larger pressure and discharge heights. They perfectly fit the needs of Sprinklers, Avoiding fast leakage or light firefighting, and Handling the water uphill.

Let us dig deeper into the components and construction part of the High-Pressure Pumps. A high-pressure reciprocating pump is a major part and it can be available in 3 models namely Simplex, Triplex, and Quintuplex. Prime Mover is another major part which may be an electric motor, diesel engine, and gas engine. Cleaning accessories are the optional parts. A Pulley set with belts or Gearbox or combination of both can effectively reduce the speed factor. Base plate/Trolley/Trailer can be used for the Mounting purpose. Pulsation suppressors and Oil Cooler for power end are optional pieces of equipment. On the other side, standard accessories are, Pressure gauge, Pressure regulating valve, Strainer, and Safety valve. Force speed lubrication of power end is also another important feature.

The flow capacity of these pumps can be measured as a volume of water flowed during a particular span of time. Gallons Per Hour (GPH) and Litres Per Minute (LPM) are the two standard methods of measuring the flow of water through High-Pressure Pumps.

A Plunger generates the movement of cylinder or tube. 2 valves are usually set at the cylinder’s closed end. These valves regulate the direction of water flows through the pump. Every High-Pressure Pump contains valves, plunger or piston.

Pump crankshaft speeds vary from one pump to another. The High-Pressure Pump is usually driven by a Diesel or Gas engine or Electric motor. Some types of pumps need regular bearing lubrication.

High-Pressure Pumps are designed to withstand heavy and continuous applications. Appropriate valve kinematics give only minimum fluctuations. Split type power frame makes the maintenance an easier task. Crank Shaft is usually extendible from either side of power frame. Replaceable stuffing box with stuffing box nut also serves the purpose of easy maintenance. Plungers of varieties such as Hardened stainless steel/Stellite/Colomony/TC are also mandatory for the smooth functioning of a pump. Fluid ends in different materials are available as per environment and application needs. Lastly, Pump oil cooling forced lubrication will be available inside of the pump as an optional equipment.
